Of course, you have options in ‘size of system’, features and price, but you also have choices in ‘design options’. Just as you would hand pick the color and texture of your curtains, and the carpet to match, you want to give the same consideration to each piece of security equipment for your alarm system in SC. Fortunately, the right security company can answer your questions and help you sort through the possibilities.

How Door and Window Contacts Work With Your Alarm System

‘Contacts’ are the parts of a system which detect ‘breaks’ or ‘openings’. They are comprised of two parts: the sensor and the magnet. The sensor is anchored to the door/window, while the magnet is anchored to the door/window frame. (Door and window contacts are used interchangeably for alarm systems.) When the door/window is closed, the two pieces line up, creating a magnetic seal. When this seal is broken (or opened), the sensor sends a signal to the main panel of the security system and sounds the alarm. Of course, you have control over this and can disarm the system for times when you want to freely use your doors or windows.)

Motion Detectors

Motion detectors use infrared heat sensors to detect intruders. They are very effective because the first thing an intruder does upon entering your home is survey the premises. Even if your motion detector is mounted in a room other than the point of entry, the intruder will inevitably cross the covered area, which will send a signal to the main panel of the alarm system and sound the security alarm.

Monitored Smoke Detectors

Monitored smoke detectors are connected to your alarm system and will dispatch the fire department, even when you are not home. When they detect smoke, your home alarm will also sound, alerting you and your family of the danger.

Wireless Alarm Remote

The wireless alarm remote enables you to arm and disarm your alarm system without ever touching the keypad on the main panel. It is adapted to fit on your key chain so you can easily control your security system while you are leaving and returning home. Keeping it on your bed stand enables you to arm your motion detectors while you are sleeping, and disarm them before you leave your bedroom in the morning.

The wireless remote also has a panic button that will immediately sound your security alarm and dispatch police in case of emergency.

Cellular Guard

Cellular Guard enables you to have a monitored security system without a home phone line. Or, if you have a home phone line, you can use the Cellular Guard as a backup service in case your phone line fails.

Glass Break Sensor

Glass break sensors can detect breaking glass for a wide area. One sensor for an entire room is more than sufficient. If an intruder breaks a window in order to enter your home, the glass sensor will send a signal to the main panel of your security system, sound the burglar alarm and notify the monitoring center.
